The Government of Nepal has given continuity to the decision of 25% discount on electricity and internet tariff even in the month of April. The government has decided to continue this decision from the Council of Ministers due to the month-long lockdown.
However, internet service providers have been taking a stand that such discounts cannot be given. The Ministry of Finance has proposed that the Nepal Telecommunication Authority continue the 25% discount on internet and data packages during the lockdown period. Even private service providers have to make arrangements accordingly.
Meanwhile, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to continue the work of giving 25% discount on electricity tariff to households consuming up to 150 units of electricity monthly.
It has also been decided to give 15% discount on electricity tariff to the domestic customers consuming electricity tariff up to 250 units per month during the lockdown period.
The government has decided that the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will make necessary arrangements to provide demand fee waiver or concession to the industries that were closed during the lockdown period.
No fine till July
It has been decided to waive the penalty for late payment and additional fee if the electricity, drinking water, telephone and internet tariff are paid by the end of ASAR this year.
The government has decided to continue the system of giving 50% discount on electricity tariff to the generating industrial establishments that use it during the period specified by the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
